Exploring the Wonders of Inner Peace (index) {from Mayte's Blog: http://www.wholenessinliving.com/english/blog/} Becoming a Shining Light A few years ago during a visit to the Peace Pilgrim Center we would gather together each day with joy to share delicious vegetarian meals and started by lighting a candle in the center of the table and taking some moments of silence in meditation. While the candle was being lit our host usually recited in a solemn manner these words of Peace Pilgrim... "Within you is the light of the world In a spirit of renewal, through our appreciation of the Way of Peace and Love we contribute to the total scheme of harmony by directing our daily thoughts to the highest of our understanding.

Great News! Claudia Biacchi in Sorbolo, Italy has completed the translation of Peace Pilgrim: Her Life and Work in Her Own Words into Italian. Thank you, Claudia, for your magnificent work. ***** Claudia shares here impressions and story with us. "I must have found Peace Pilgrim's website while browsing peace movements in general, and her story fascinated me. How come that a single person has done so much for peace by just walking across a country? It must have been this kind of simple curiosity, mixed with the fact that I would have liked to work translating materials (a subject I like very much is alternative medicine). Exploring jobs I did some that I disliked a lot, so much that I became ill (and Peace Pilgrim has an answer to that!). In the summer-autumn of 2007, while considering to leave a job that did not suit me and searching for another job, I saw that Steps toward Inner Peace could be translated into Italian, so I thought, "Ok, I like doing translations, I like this kind of subject, I feel sad and depressed, so why not just doing it for pleasure?" And, while translating "Steps", a new perspective opened to me: those who belong to the French Mouvement de la Paix have a slogan, "De mon quartier à ma planète" ("From my neighborhood to planet earth") and this resonated with Peace Pilgrim's vision that everything must start from the nearest part of yourself, that is, within you. Mouvement de la Paix is more grounded in political actions, while Peace Pilgrim's roots are more spiritual. This inner, spiritual perspective made me feel so little in comparison with her, and while translating I reflected on everything she said... When I discovered this year that my translation of the "Steps" had been published on the Friends of Peace Pilgrim's website I felt the need and pleasure to continue with the translation of the book. I thought, perhaps all this isn't an accident at all, perhaps I really need to put into practice Peace Pilgrim's teachings... And while translating the book, I have felt serene inside, and have found some help in cutting caffeine and eating better. It is already a good step forward for me! I now feel more at peace with myself by the fact that I decided to accept myself as I am." "I hope that the translation will do well and I thank you again, Mayte, for your encouragement!! I have had and still have opportunities for meditating and transforming myself through Peace Pilgrim's message." Welcome (index)
Peaceful Families (index) Shared by Stan Carnarius, The Lancaster, Pennsylvania Monthly Meeting of the Religious Society of Friends has been working on defining "What does it mean to "Live the peace testimony in all family relationships?" Here's an extract of some of their findings. The Peace Testimony has been an anchor for The Religious Society of Friends through changing, often turbulent centuries. Since all human beings are children of God, Friends are called to love and respect all persons. Friend's testimony arises from the power of Christ working in their hearts. Their words and lives should testify of this power and to stand as a positive witness in a world still torn by strife and violence. In their individual lives, the peace testimony is an ideal that leads them to accept conflict as an opportunity for loving engagement. They seek to maintain love and unity. They acknowledge that in a family context it can be difficult to live the peace testimony, "our birth families shape us so our patterns of living become invisible to us." One of the challenges is to" learn to accept someone's feelings, which may be so different from your own, without feeling personally threatened." They acknowledge that families are there to nurture. In dealing with conflict, here are some of their comments: "Conflict is an opportunity for loving engagement with those with whom we disagree." "Love can often be expressed in creative, constructive resolution of the disagreement." "The idea of 'what is this conflict teaching us?' might be helpful. "It is important to speak up and validate reality for ourselves and others." Expressions from Friends Around the World (index)

In 2005 the Angela ProDeo Foundation in Holland started the 'Hand in Hand for Peace' - project. Its purpose is to encourage people of all religions and belief systems to connect in the creation of a peace CD. The words of the songs and the CD will be downloadable for free on the internet. All words will be translated in as many languages as possible and offered on the web so anyone can enjoy the music and the message. Musicians can mail the Foundation a mp3 of a song for peace from a certain tradition or a personal composition. The Angela ProDeo Foundation will bring together a collection of peace songs and create a copyright free CD. They will choose the songs that are suitable according to their insight. For more information about the Hand and Hand for Peace project, and to listen to the gorgeous first two tracks for the CD: "Born in the One Light" by Maria Talis and "The Universal Prayer for Peace" by Georgia Carr, go to: http://www.angelaprodeo.org/en_handinhandforpeace.html Seeds of Peace (index) Throughout the years, we have been reporting the encouraging activities of the group called, "Seeds of Peace", dedicated to use dialogue to empower young people in conflict resolution in the Middle East and South Asia. Given recent violence in the area the activities of the "Seeds of Peace" are postponed in Gaza, the West Bank and Israel, and are being restructured. Their programs in India, Pakistan and Afghanistan continue to run albeit under difficult and strained circumstances. More information when available. Reflections (index)
